life starts at conception, others at birth, and a few, when the kids
leave home. At Gifted hands Writing, we think life begins the moment you
choose to experience it. The young child learning to read, the woman
going through childbirth, the patient who decides to take responsibility
for his health, the weekend hobbyist searching for treasure, the
alcoholic who makes a conscious decision to become sober, and the
entrepreneur looking for the next big thing.
These
are the moments when we begin to experience life to the fullest. We are
more ready to question, to learn, and to partake of opportunities that
present themselves.

Bye 2008, Hi 2009 - Closing old Doors and Opening
New Ones
Here is a simple “healing”
exercise for you to do daily, during the month of
December. It may help to “trim the edges” and start
life on a new slate in January 2009.
Begin your day by saying the
following phrase – ALOUD.
1. I feel good about myself.
2.Yes, I can do it; I must do
it; and I will do ii
3.I will not let anyone bring
me down; especially not my own self.
4.It is okay to get rejected.
5.2009 will open brand new
doors for me.
After saying these five phrases (which probably
takes 10 seconds) you have to do something really
important: SMILE!As the old year ends and as a
New Year is just around the corner, some of you may
look back and wonder about the progress or lack of
progress you made during the course of the year.
What ever that took place in 2008, good or bad, is
over. Sure, some of its effects will trickle over
to 2009, but hey, so what? . 2008 is almost gone.
Let’s, look forward to 2009.
Gifted Hands Writing wishes you a Merry
Christmas and a
Happy New Year!

The Tao of
Transforming Rejection Into Hope
Rejection comes with the territory of becoming a
successful writer. You are likely to get rejected in different areas of
your writing career. Initially rejections can be disappointing. After
going through several, however, you will get used to it. The important
thing is to not get discouraged. Use rejection to your advantage. It can
bring you closer to becoming a successful writer. Rejection needs to be
taken as a sign of strength and hope and not a reason to harbor
vengeance. Use the word “no” to your advantage and transform it to “yes,
I can.”
As a writer I have received
thousands of rejections – for magazine queries, grant proposals,
manuscripts, and more. Every rejection only made me stronger. In
retrospect, I am glad I experienced rejection as it has helped me to
appreciate what I have now achieved.
Here are some healthy ways to
cope with rejection:
A Rejection could be a Blessing in Disguise
Sometimes, getting rejected is a blessing in disguise. It may provide
you with the space for something bigger that is about to happen.
Think of a new door opening after the old door is slammed on your face.
Maybe you did miss out on something good, but you're past that and the
new door could be much better.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it
It’s 10% hearing “no” and 90% how you respond to it. A lot of rejection
is not the actual rejection itself, but how you handle it. If you engage
in positive self-talk and have a confident attitude, it is possible to
attract a better outcome. Hence, keep picking yourself up when you fall.
Do not feel daunted but rejoice because you have found one less way to
being turned down. So, even if a new party says “no” to you, you will
always be able to transform your negative state of mind to a more
empowering one.
Think of Rejection as a Healthy Thing
No writer gets immunity from
rejection. Rejection will actually make you a more resilient writer and
a stronger individual Rejection can actually be a healthy thing.
Thinking of it as a positive attribute rather than a negative one can
get you closer in achieving your goals.
Re-vamp your Mind
Take a step back. Go for a
weekend retreat. Do something fun that is not writing-related (if you
can afford to, that is), don’t turn on the computer for a few days. Take
a complete hiatus from writing. When you return you may find that your
mind feels more refreshed and that your attitude has been re-vamped.
This mental rejuvenation is more important than anything else.
NEVER LET REJECTION TURN YOUR DREAMS TO DUST.
